FACULTY AND STAFF UPDATES

Dr Zhu Di, Assistant Professor, Department of Materials Science and Engineering
Dr Zhu Di joined the Department of Materials Science and Engineering as a Presidential Young Professor in September 2023. Before joining NUS, he was a research scientist at the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering, A*STAR. He received his PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2019 and spent two years as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University. He was a recipient ofĀ the NRF Fellowship, Harvard Quantum InitiativeĀ Postdoctoral Fellowship, and MIT Jin-Au Kong Thesis Award. His research interests include integrated quantum photonics, applied superconductivity, and nanoscale electromagnetics.

Mr Marcus Chua Yao Hua, Management Assistant Officer, Department of Architecture
Marcus was a Programme Administrator for the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and Master of Landscape Architecture programmes before becoming a Management Assistant Officer to support academic administration functions for Graduate Coursework Programmes. Before joining NUS, he was a designer and horticulturist in the Landscape Architecture industry.

Ms Chen Jiaxu, Assistant Manager, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
Jiaxu manages the research administration, safety, tracking of programme targets and milestones, and reporting on the progress of the research programmes and projects in the Coastal Protection and Flood Resilience Institute (CFI) Singapore.

Mr Foo Check Kuang, Laboratory Technologist, Central Workshop
Check Kuang will be providing machining services to support prototyping work. He will train students in using machinery and common hand tools. Prior to joining NUS, he worked as a Principal Engineer specialising in new product introduction, computer numerical control (CNC) and special machines. He graduated with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Ngee Ann Polytechnic and a Diploma in Leadership and People Management from Kaplan Professional.

Mr Ng Jian Hong, Manager, Office of Research and Industry
Before joining NUS, Jian Hong worked at the National Research Foundation (NRF) for three and a half years and in the aerospace industry for the preceding six years, supporting aftermarket businesses and operations in Singapore. He graduated from NTU in 2013, majoring in Materials Engineering.

Mr James Zhao Qingjiang, Laboratory Technologist, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
James' focus at E6NanoFab is on building and maintaining the Singapore Hybrid-Integrated Next-Generation Āµ-Electronic (SHINE) facilities for the research areas of advanced semiconductor, optical and flexible electronic devices.

Miss Amber Kwek Nang Yeong, Senior Executive, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Amber supports the department's Undergraduate Programmes. Before joining ECE, she worked in the healthcare and social services sectors.

Appointments

Professor Hang Chang Chieh (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering), Executive Director of the Institute for Engineering Leadership and Emeritus Deputy President, has been appointed President Advisor (NUSRI Guangzhou) to oversee the establishment and development of the NUS Guangzhou Research Translation and Innovation Institute (NUS-GRTII). NUS-GRTII has a clear and ambitious mission, centred on high-end talent development, research translation & innovation, and the seamless transfer and transformation of technological achievements. Its vision is to emerge as a hub for talent development, fostering a two-way exchange of talents, technologies, and start-ups. Moreover, it stands proudly as NUS's flagship project within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Miss Wan Foon Kiew Sylvia, Laboratory Technologist, Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

We would like to thank Sylvia for her more than 25 years of dedication and service. Sylvia is a colleague whom we depended on for her resourcefulness in providing solutions in her area of work, be it sourcing for good quotations or ensuring that the laboratories are safe and well-maintained. She has a heart for students and will not hesitate to go the extra mile to make the studentsā€™ learning journey a good one. We wish her a happy retirement!

Mr Kamsan Bin Rasman, Laboratory Technologist, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering,

We want to take a moment to express our deep appreciation for Mr. Kamsanā€™s exceptional technical skills and unwavering dedication to his work. He possesses a unique talent and expertise in welding, and his meticulous attention to detail is truly remarkable. He never hesitates to lend a helping hand, patiently explaining and guiding students on steel fabrication. We wish him wonderful retirement years ahead.
