Dear students and colleagues

I have always been very proud of our achievements as a College. Our faculty, students and alumni continue to make waves in their chosen fields, with many achieving top awards and recognition both locally and internationally.

This month, two were awarded the highest honours in Science and Technology in Singapore.

Associate Professor Qiu Cheng Wei from our Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering was awarded the President's Science Award for his trailblazing contributions to topological thermal materials and diffusion physics, pioneering the fundamental framework in structured thermal metamaterials, quantum heat transport, advanced cooling technologies, and nonreciprocal thermal photonics.

Distinguished Alumni (Electrical Engineering Class '81), Adjunct Professor Quek Gim Pew, was awarded the President's Science and Technology Medal for his pivotal role in developing Singapore’s research ecosystem in critical areas including defence capabilities, space technology, advancing quantum engineering, artificial intelligence, and high-performance computing.

Their achievements are well-deserved, and I congratulate them wholeheartedly for this prestigious recognition.

Beyond their academic and professional accomplishments, both were lauded for their commitment to nurturing future generations of leaders, a passion that I believe is shared by other colleagues in CDE.

Education is said to be not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire. It is my hope that we continue to 'light the fire' for innovative and transformative change for the betterment of all.
