HFM-RP2: On-body Computing for Next-generation Wearable Systems

Principal Investigator: Professor Peh Li-Shiuan, SoC

Today’s wearables rely on off-body devices for computing. Wearables collect rich sensor data and communicate them wirelessly off the body to phones, IoT gateways, edge computing devices or the Cloud for computation. However, wireless communications take significant delay and power, which makes real-time interactive wearable applications infeasible. This proposal aims to realize on-body computing, so as to drive next-generation wearable applications. Specifically, we propose to design and prototype two next-generation wearable applications where on-body computing is crucial: smart artificial skins, and mobile brain sensing.
