Research Fellowship Programme

The Advanced Research and Technology Innovation Centre (ARTIC), National University of Singapore (NUS) serves as a hub of research and education excellence in science and technology. It hosts research projects and researchers from faculties across NUS, as well as distinguished visiting professors from renowned overseas academic institutions. ARTIC funds talents as ARTIC Fellows who are dedicated to conducting upstream and exploratory research with significant potential impact.

About the ARTIC Fellowship Programme

The ARTIC Fellowship Programme, open to outstanding researchers, provides early career researchers with the opportunity to conduct independent research under the mentorship of designated professors at NUS. Priority consideration will be given to Singaporeans, Singapore Permanent Residents, and individuals who have earned PhD degrees from internationally reputable universities overseas, based on their merits. Each ARTIC Fellow is awarded a grant to support their proposed research project for achieving groundbreaking outcomes.

1. Fields of Research

The topics of proposals should be relevant to the following areas:
1.1 Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
1.2 Electrical and Electronics Engineering
1.3 Computer and Data Science
1.4 Other related fields as specified above.

2. Duration of Fellowships

18 months to 24 months.

3. Eligibility

Applications are invited from outstanding candidates who meet all the following conditions.

  • Be a citizen of a country that has diplomatic relations with Singapore
  • Applicants must have obtained their doctoral degree within six years of the Fellowship's commencement.
  • Applicants must have a strong research publication record.
  • Applicants must be fluent in both written and oral English.

Note 1: Shortlisted applicants will be required to submit their doctoral degree certificate before receiving their official offer.
Note 2: Those who have previously been awarded and started a Fellowship under the ARTIC Fellowship Program are not eligible.

4. Terms of Financial Support

  • Maintenance Allowance - A monthly salary of SGD $6,000, plus contribution to Central Provident Fund (as per the applicable government policy), annual staff development fund and staff welfare and medical insurance. The salary of Fellow can be top up by Host PIs.
  • Settling Fee - An allowance of SGD $2,000, covering overseas travel insurance etc.
  • Research Grant - In addition to manpower, covering OOE (Other Operating Expenses) and overseas conference trips, etc. Further details can be found in the Budget section of the application.

Note: For the applicant who has been residing in Singapore (and has a mailing address) prior to the Fellowship starting date will not be eligible for the settling-in allowance.

5. Eligibility of Host Principal Investigator (PI)

The Host Principal Investigator (PI) to be responsible for managing the research grant and overseeing the research progress. Only tenured faculty members of NUS are eligible to be the Host PI.
