This transformation is particularly prevalent in medical technology and healthcare, where digitalisation is playing an increasingly important role.<\/p>\n<p>This digitalisation does demand new cognitive and technical skills, such as understanding how systems interact, how to select and use data, even how to design better for patient&#8217;s needs.<\/p>\n<p>Starting from Academic Year 2025\/2026, the department of Biomedical Engineering will adopt a new undergraduate curriculum structure that gives students greater choice, breadth and flexibility in charting their learning journeys.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"unrestricted-electives-within-and-beyond-engineering\">Unrestricted Electives: Within and Beyond Engineering<\/h3>\n<p>The NUS curriculum structure has provisions for Unrestricted Electives, which allow students to explore greater breadth or depth in any subject and at any level.<\/p>\n<p>If you wish to go deeper within your chosen engineering discipline, you may opt to read a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cde.nus.edu.sg\/undergraduate\/degree-programmes\/specializations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">specialisation<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>If you prefer instead to broaden your knowledge and skills in a complementary or contrasting area, consider taking a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/registrar\/academic-information-policies\/undergraduate-students\/special-programmes\/minor-programmes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>minor<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/registrar\/academic-information-policies\/undergraduate-students\/special-programmes\/double-major-programmes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>second major<\/strong><\/a>. This means you will have the flexibility of taking a second major, a minor and specialisation, two minors, or two specialisations with your UEC.
