National University of Singapore\u2019s (NUS) College of Design and Engineering, and a Principal Investigator in the NUS Institute for Health Innovation &amp; Technology (iHealthtech) and the NUS Tissue Engineering Programme under the NUS Life Sciences\r\nInstitute. He is leading the emerging field of immuno-engineering, where new biomaterials are designed to modulate immune cells and their tissue environments to improve recovery from diseases such as diabetic ulcers and cancer. He is the first and only Singaporean to receive this distinction, adding to his earlier election to the Royal Society in 2024.\r\n\r\nThe Fellowship recognises accomplished engineers, inventors and technologists who have made exceptional contributions to engineering. This year, 74 new Fellows were elected by their peers, including nine International and five Honorary Fellows.\r\n\r\nProfessor Lim was elected for his research in biomedical engineering and his contributions to the development of microfluidic and wearable technologies for disease diagnosis and therapy. A globally recognised biomedical engineer, inventor and entrepreneur, he has translated academic research into healthcare solutions through six start-ups, including one that was publicly listed. Among his technologies is a cancer-detecting biochip that captures circulating tumour cells from blood, offering a less invasive approach to cancer diagnostics.\r\n\r\nReflecting on the honour, Prof Lim said: \u201cI am deeply humbled to be elected to the Royal Academy of Engineering. I would like to share this with my amazing mentors, collaborators, as well as past and present students and staff, with whom I have had the privilege of working to develop research with real-world impact.
