Shanghai Spring Workshop in Logistics and Operations
In our continued effort to reach out to possible overseas collaborators and partners, and to renew our mutual working relationships and understanding with our current ones, the centre sent a delegation to Shanghai, China from the 5th to the 9th of March 2018. The team visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, Shanghai University, and Shanghai Maritime University, and touched base with the faculty, researchers, and students there. The team introduced the centre, and expounded on the digital twin concept we are embarking on, with a focus on the simulation analytics, sparking substantial interest in possible collaboration in further research.
The team also visited ZPMC, where they met with the key members of their research and development teams and learnt about the latest developments in port equipment, systems, and technologies. The highlight of this visit was a trip to Yangshan port, where the team witness the operations of the fully automated terminal. The team also had an in-depth discussion with the operational staffs of the port, thereby gaining a better understanding of the challenges and risks of running the terminal.
