NUS team – The First and Only team outside of North America Winning a Design Competition Award in the 2018 Water Environment Federation (WEF) Student Design Competition

CEE PhD students Xu Dong (team leader), Li Rui, Lu Lu and Goh Jun Wei won a Design Competition Award in the WEF Student Design Competition held at WEFTEC 2018, New Orleans, USA on 30 September 2018. In addition, Li Rui received the Process Challenge Award. This team was supervised by Professors Hu Jiangyong, Ng How Yong and Ong Say Leong. The WEF Student Design Competition, organized by the Water Environmental Federation (located in USA), is a well-known international competition in the field of water and wastewater treatment design. There were 23 winning teams, selected from preliminary contests, participated in the final 2018 WEF Student Design Competition.

Jun Wei who received his B.Eng (Environmental Engineering) degree from CEE/NUS in 2018 represented the NUS team to give the presentation on an integrated design for ultrapure water production from electronic product effluent to achieve zero-liquid discharge. The NUS team, representing Singapore, was the only team outside of North America to win an award in this competition.
