The prize was judged by the IStructE Research Panel, and sponsored by Elsevier.<\/p>\n<p>The winning paper \u201cDesign of concrete filled tubular beam-columns with high strength steel and concrete\u201d was co-authored by J Y Richard Liew, Mingxiang Xiong and Dexin Xiong published in\u00a0<i>Structures<\/i>, Volume 8, Part 2, November 2016, Pages 213-226.<\/p>\n<p>Prof Liew received the award at the IStructE People and Papers Awards Ceremony held in London on 8 June 2017.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3365\" src=\" \/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2019\/07\/Best-Research-Paper-Prize-2017.png\" alt=\"Best Research Paper Prize 2017\" width=\"312\" height=\"394\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em>Professor Richard Liew receiving\u00a0the Best Research Paper Award 2017 from the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), UK<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Professor Richard Liew, Department of Civil &amp; Environmental Engineering, and his PhD students won the Best Research Paper Award 2017 from the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), UK.
