\n\t\tCelebrating 70th Years of Excellence\n\t<\/h1>\n\t

Opening Address by Professor Richard Liew | Head of Department, CEE<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\n\t

Our story began in 1955 when the School of Engineering was formed under the University of Malaya. The inaugural batch of students pursued a general Engineering course with a Specialization in Civil Engineering, earning a degree recognized by the Institution of Civil Engineers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Following Singapore’s independence, the Department of Civil Engineering was established under the Faculty of Engineering, University of Singapore. For seven decades, the Department has been at the forefront of innovations, cultivating generations of engineers who have played a pivotal role in shaping Singapore’s progress.<\/p>\n

Today, we are proud to be ranked 3rd<\/sup>\u00a0globally and 1st in Asia<\/strong> in the latest QS World University Ranking by Subject<\/a>.<\/p>\n\t\"\"<\/a>

\n\t\tOur 70th Anniversary Logo\n\t<\/h1>\n\t

The Logo Designer, Ms Trang Tran, Class of 2017, shares the insight of her design<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\n\t

Last year, we invited our staff, students, and alumni to take part in the CEE 70th Anniversary Logo Competition. The response was overwhelming, with more than 40 entries submitted to showcase their creativity and passion for our celebration.<\/p>\n

The winning design goes to Ms Trang Tran<\/strong>, an alumnus from the Class of 2017. Her design encapsulates the Department’s longstanding heritage and forward-looking vision.<\/p>\n

At the heart of her logo is a bold “70<\/strong>“, representing not just a milestone but also seven decades of excellence and achievements. A road runs into the distance, symbolizing our journey connecting the past, present, and future. The engravement of Singapore’s skyline highlights our contributions to the built environment.<\/p>\n

As we reflect on our rich history, we also recognize the challenges that lie ahead. Our groundbreaking research and innovation continue to tackle global issues-from climate resilience to sustainability-driving progress toward a better future for generations to come.<\/p>\n
