ABOUT CERT

The Centre for Energy Research & Technology (CERT) is a research center in the College of Design and Engineering at the National University of Singapore.

CERT was established in September 2014 to integrate research on energy science and technology for sustainable development under the Faculty of Engineering. It positions itself as a solution provider by working closely with the industry and national agencies on energy technologies of local and regional interest and introducing the technologies developed at NUS to the market. It has the resources to undertake projects at various technology readiness levels, from components and processes to systems. The Center has identified 5 core areas for energy technology development in Singapore where we can deliver the greatest impact through close collaborations with various stakeholders.

  • Energy Efficiency
  • Energy Storage
  • Natural Gas
  • Renewable Energy Sources
  • Smart Grid

In 2022, The Faculty of Engineering and the School of Desing and Environment were merged to form the College of Design and Engineering. CERT Core areas became more relevant in Singapore’s energy transition and decarbonization targets of net-zero by 2050. In October 2024, a new initiative NUS Energy Solutions Hub were announced, which will take the CERT portfolio of research to the university level to have more inter-disciplinary angle and holistic approaches available for industry and government stakeholders alike.
