A/Prof LEE Poh Seng
DIRECTOR
Dr. Poh Seng (PS) Lee is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He currently serves as the Director of Centre for Energy Research & Technology (CERT) and Programme Director of Cooling Energy Science & Technology Singapore (CoolestSG) national consortium.
Prof Lee’s research interests include high performance cooling techniques (in particular single and two-phase microchannel cooling), energy efficient air conditioning and low-grade waste heat recovery. He is the recipient of numerous research and innovation awards including 2013 NUS Faculty of Engineering’s Young Faculty Research Award, 2011 Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES) Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award, 2011 Asia Pacific Clean Energy Summit Top 10 Defense Energy Technology Solutions Award and 2009 Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors Award (TKKYIA) – Defense Science.
Prof YANG Wenming
CO-LEAD FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Professor Wenming Yang is the Dean’s Chair Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore. Holding a Ph.D. (Energy and Power Engineering, China), he is the author of more than 300 research and technical articles, patents and international conference papers. His papers have been cited for 9379 times with an H-index of 52 (google scholar, as on 8 May 2020).
He is interested in developing clean combustion technology for energy and power generation. Special interests include combustion and emissions control of internal combustion engines, fuel design for greener and sustainable transportation, optimization of biomass and pulverized coal boilers, micro power generators and renewable energy.

LEAD FOR ENERGY STORAGE
Prof Palani’s group focuses on basic battery research at one hand, developing novel concepts and electrode materials for lithium-ion battery and sodium-ion battery resulting in impactful publications and patents, and other hand on translational battery research developing proto-types of various battery cells close to industry standards without compromising safety. A state-of-the-art pilot line has been set-up for fabrication of commercial type (cylindrical and pouch) battery cells with the aim of developing capabilities for prototyping high performance lithium-ion batteries and sodium-ion batteries. Currently work is in progress to develop 18650 supercap battery cells with the hybrid capability of moderate energy (like battery) and high power (like capacitor).
A/Prof Stefan ADAMS
CO-LEAD FOR ENERGY STORAGE
Prof Adams’ group has leading expertise in fast-ion conducting oxides and sulfides for use in Lithium-air-, all-solid-state-Lithium-, flow- and structural batteries. Adams also serves the Asian Society of Solid State Ionics as their Secretary. Combining decades of experience on (in situ) structural and electrochemical characterization and battery performance testing with DFT and empirical simulations (especially his bond-valence method for the predicting ion migration pathways in solids) his group contributes to structural charac¬terization and optimization of lithium and sodium solid electroytes, designs high power performance cathodes exploiting nanostructured interfaces in heterogeneous conductors, integrates the solid electrolytes studied by his group into high performance battery concepts and coordinates a collaborative research effort at NUS on Aqueous Lithium-air batteries.
A/Prof Sanjib K PANDA
LEAD FOR SMART GRID
Prof Panda is an expert in power engineering and associated technology fusion, both at the component-level and at the systems-level. More than 25 years of research experience in power electronics, converter control, electric drives and energy systems has garnered him pragmatic insight towards the technology implementations. He supervises the development of renewable source integrated microgrid test-bed at ECE Department and is well-versed with the subtleties in operation of such complex systems. His current interests include grid-integration of renewable energy sources, green data centers, integrated chemical and electrical system operation, intelligent building controls, wireless sensor-actuator networks, smart-metering, power quality, demand side management using electric springs, predictive maintenance via condition monitoring and high-altitude wind power harnessing.
Prof LIU Bin
LEAD FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES
Prof Liu’s overall research goal is to design, synthesize and characterize new materials with an emphasis on their applications in nano-biotechnology and clean energy. Her group is creating an active program of research which bridges areas of materials science, polymer chemistry, nano-science, bio-technology and device fabrication. Her current research interests include bioprobes based on fluorogens with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristics, conjugated polymers for bioimaging and cellular detection and development of dye-sensitized and perovskite solar cells.

LEAD FOR NATUAL GAS
Prof Karimi’s main research interests are in the area of Process Systems Engineering. His current work focuses on energy systems including natural gas supply chain, process optimization, process operations, process synthesis, energy integration, carbon capture and utilization, and systems biology. Over the years, he has managed industry collaborative projects with several local chemical and logistics companies, and addressed a variety of practical problems.

CO-LEAD FOR NATURAL GAS
Praveen LINGA is an associate professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He holds a PhD (2009) from the University of British Columbia, Canada in Chemical Engineering. His research interests are in the areas of clathrate (gas) hydrates, storage and transport of fuels, carbon dioxide capture, storage & utilization (CCS & U), seawater desalination and recovery of energy. He is interested in fundamental and applied aspects of research. His research group at NUS particularly focuses on enhancing the kinetics of hydrate formation for several applications of interest by developing novel reactor designs, experimental methods and techniques. Up to date, he has published more than 50 research articles and delivered about 20 keynote/invited talks. He serves as an associate editor in the Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering (Elsevier, Oxford UK).
