These have been achieved through precise molecular engineering and a thorough understanding of the photophysical properties of materials.

Her team also works on organic semiconductor based visible-light-driven photocatalyst for water splitting and carbon dioxide reduction. Recently, her research group discovered that impurities can significantly contribute to the optical properties of many carbazole derivatives and other organic compounds. This opens new opportunities to develop high performance luminescent materials.

Prof Liu, Head of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department and NUS Provost’s Chair Professor, has bagged the Kabiller Young Investigator’s Award in Nanoscience and Nanomedicine.
