Tan Li Dan

Assistant Manager
Development Contracts & Cost Control
Changi Airport Group

Class of 2018, MSc (Project Management), 2019

What does your current job scope entail?

As part of the Development Contracts & Cost Control (DCCC) division in Changi East, my role as a Contract Officer is to provide procurement and tender support, contract administration and cost management.

Changi East is a major development which includes the Changi Airport Terminal 5 (T5), a three-runway system, the construction of tunnels and other underground systems, landside and aviation support facilities and the Changi East Industrial Zone (CEIZ). With the large scale of works, I am given the opportunity to manage various type of consultancy and construction contracts from soil investigation works to specialized airport systems.

It is definitely a one-in-a-life time opportunity to be part of the team that shapes the future of Singapore's aviation infrastructure.

How was your experience in your undergraduate degree programme and how has it helped you with your current job?

At my degree programme, I have gained a wide range of essential knowledge in Contracts and Cost Management, Facilities Management, Construction technology, structural and MEP systems, and even Building Information Modelling Technology (BIM).

The varied curriculum has provided me with the versatility to have a range of career options and through the Practical Training Scheme (PTS), I had a clearer view of the built environment which guided me on which career path to embark on. Although I still have a lot more to learn at my current job, what I have learnt in university certainly sets the groundwork for me to grow in my career.

I also had the opportunity to go to Korea in Year 3 under the Student Exchange Programme (SEP). Aside from the fun and sightseeing, I got to see for myself the strong competition the students face during their job search and also a glimpse of the built environment in Korea!
