This is an outstanding achievement as the recognition is highly competitive and awarded to rigorous student work that impacts real-world practices. Furthermore, Ze Yuan is the first student in the Department to be awarded both the CDE Innovation &amp; Research Award 2026 &#8211; High Achievement Award and the NUS Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher Prize.<\/p>\n<p>Supervised by Associate Professor\u00a0Stephen Tay, Ze Yuan&#8217;s research focuses on circular engineering solutions within the built environment, specifically the repurposing of industrial blowdown water (BDW) to irrigate vertical greenery systems. The research further evaluates the effectiveness of vertical greenery irrigated with non-chemically treated BDW in reducing solar heat ingress, demonstrating the suitability of BDW for irrigation, and contributing to the mitigation of the urban heat island effect.
