Eating utensils are seldom designed with the intention of feeding another person. This set of dinnerware has been designed primarily for use in institutions, where caregivers are tasked with feeding elderly seniors.
The spoon has been designed with an elliptical handle, where it assists caregivers using the sides of the spoon to wipe away excess foodstuff from the mouth in a smooth gesture, whilst the geometry of the plate enables food to be scooped with the spoon effectively without a fork. The overall design also addresses the aesthetic stigmatization of using segmented plates by presenting a visually appealing and comforting dinnerware set that could contribute to a more pleasant mealtime experience for both the caregiver and the elderly.
