Luxury is aging beautifully
designed by: Kenneth Tan

The paper-weight is design to strengthen relationship with the user over time. The Japanese term “Shutaku” or “polish by hand,” is something that becomes better the more it is used or touched. The material bronze is chosen with its ability to form a layer of patina as it age. Being protected with a clear lacquer, the flower pattern reveals itself slowly as the surrounding areas oxidize. This also relates to the notion of Wabi – Sabi, centered on the acceptance of transience.

Visual character is created on the paperweight as the patina ages with time.

The images of the flower gets clearer, depicting the passing of time on the object.
