Laparoscopic surgery, otherwise know as keyhole surgery, is a form of minimally invasive surgery. These surgery benefits patients as recovery time is shortened, and there is less trauma caused to tissue and nerves. However, while patients benefit, surgeons carrying out these surgeries suffer from a high risk of occupational injury. In particular, neck and shoulder injuries, as well as the infamous “laparoscopist’s thumb”.
This design of instruments for laparoscopic surgery therefore considers not merely the comfort of the grip, but the ergonomics of its use in entirety, designing a safer condition for surgeons to operate in.
