{"id":15461,"date":"2022-07-23T18:11:44","date_gmt":"2022-07-23T10:11:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cde.nus.edu.sg\/ece\/?post_type=nus-news&#038;p=15461"},"modified":"2024-07-31T15:58:57","modified_gmt":"2024-07-31T07:58:57","slug":"nus-team-receives-two-awards-at-flagship-semiconductor-conference","status":"publish","type":"nus-news","link":"https:\/\/cde.nus.edu.sg\/ece\/news\/nus-team-receives-two-awards-at-flagship-semiconductor-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"NUS team receives two awards at flagship semiconductor conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An NUS research group led by Assistant Professor Gong Xiao (<a href=\"https:\/\/cde.nus.edu.sg\/ece\/\">Dept of Electrical and Computer Engineering<\/a>) has been presented with two awards at a flagship conference on semiconductor technology held recently in Hawaii.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13434\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13434\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-13434\" src=\"https:\/\/cde.nus.edu.sg\/ece\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/12\/Gong-Xiao_Group-Photo-2048x1152-1-1024x576-1.png\" alt=\"Gong Xiao Group Photo 2048x1152\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13434\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Assistant Professor Gong Xiao (sixth from left) with his research team in Hawaii<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The\u00a0<em>Symposium on VLSI Technology and Circuits<\/em>\u00a0is an annual gathering of global industry players and universities to share the latest developments in semiconductor and microelectronics research.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The theme for this year\u2019s conference, held from June 12-17, was \u201cTechnology and Circuits for the Critical Infrastructure of the Future\u201d, proposed against the background of ongoing global shortages of semiconductor chips.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Assistant Professor Gong\u2019s team presented seven papers at the conference showcasing the team&#8217;s progress and innovations from materials and devices to integration technology and applications in photonics and electronics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Of these, a paper on ferroelectric memory by NUS PhD students Zhou Zuopo and Jiao Leming was presented with the Best Demo Paper Award.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Additionally, a paper on IGZO nanowire transistors by NUS PhD student Han Kaizhen was presented with the Best Student Paper Award for the 2021 conference.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Asst Prof Gong said: \u201cSeven papers could be the highest number presented from one university research group in the 42-year history of the conference. Each year, only one Best Student Paper Award and one Best Demo Paper Award are presented in the category of technology based on the quality of the paper and the performance during the presentation or demo session.
