This study examines the factors influencing user acceptance of mHealth apps and the underlying structure shaping users’ willingness to adopt them. Using an online factorial survey with vignettes, data were collected from 1,669 participants across eight countries spanning four continents. Structural equation modeling was applied to assess the combined effects of multiple factors. The results show that digital literacy is the strongest predictor of willingness to use mHealth apps, followed by users’ habits of sharing personal information online, while privacy concerns have a comparatively weak effect. Demographic factors, including country of residence, age, ethnicity, and education, further moderate these relationships. These findings offer practical implications for app designers, healthcare practitioners, and policymakers, highlighting the importance of promoting digital literacy and strengthening data governance to support broader adoption of mHealth applications.

ACM Health:

ACM Transactions on Computing for Healthcare (ACM HEALTH) is a premier, top-tier, peer-reviewed journal published by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the world’s largest educational and scientific computing society.
