Within the Laboratory housed a new world-class Compact Range facility for the measurement of antenna radiation patterns and target radar cross sections. It was officially opened by the Chief Defence Scientist and Chairman of DSO National Laboratories, Professor Lui Pao Chuen, and Deputy Vice Chancellor of NUS, Professor Hang Chang Chieh on 18 January 2000.<\/p>\nThe development of this facility, officially known as the Compact Range, is the beginning of a string of joint efforts between MINDEF and NUS to capitalise on the strong partnership between the two institutions. These joint efforts leverage on the respective strengths of MINDEF and NUS to achieve the objectives of introducing cutting-edge technologies to our national defence system as well as to propel our academic standard to a greater height.\nThe objectives of this development are:<br \/>\n1. To support the Ministry of Defence in their advanced development work<br \/>\n2. To support the development of local InfoCom industry in antenna design and development as well as in propagation study.<br \/>\n3. To support the development of local aerospace industry in aircraft design and development<br \/>\n4. To raise the academic standards of NUS.<br \/>\n5. To encourage collaborative work between NUS staff and regional and international research institutions.<br \/>\n6.
