Congratulations to team HomePal for winning the NUS Resilience and Growth Innovation Challenge. The team consists of Kor Jia Wen <\/strong>(Materials Science & Engineering, iDP, Class of 2021), Lai Hoi Bing<\/strong> (Industrial Design, Class of 2021), Chen Hong Wei<\/strong> (Mechanical Engineering, Class of 2021), Chua Zhi Qi<\/strong> (Food Science & Technology, Class of 2021), and Tan De Jun<\/strong> (Industrial & Systems Engineering, Class of 2022).<\/p>\n

HomePal aims to empower the lives of elderly and the vulnerable through technology. Their mission is to provide a peace of mind for them and their families when they are alone. The team hopes to solve the problem of falls left undetected for long hours, which can cause serious consequences such as internal bleeding or even fatality. Due to such serious complications, timely access to medical care is extremely important. Their solutions include fall-detection systems that uses machine learning algorithms to detect falls at homes swiftly and accurately while protecting privacy. The HomePal system protects users\u2019 privacy, reduces the need for human trigger and does not affect normal lifestyle. Suitable for both households and care-providing organizations, it is designed to ease the caregivers\u2019 fear with continuous monitoring. They are currently at the stage of product prototyping and have secured partners in the eldercare sector to testbed their prototypes. The team consists of 5 NOC alumni from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about deep-tech and eldercare.<\/p>\n
