It comprises two preparatory courses about user-centred design and value creation in innovation, and culminates in a year-long design project course where students are expected to apply their design knowledge and skills and work together their peers from different disciplines to develop solutions to real problems.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cde.nus.edu.sg\/edic\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2024\/07\/idp-timeline-MIN-rev2024-1024x536.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"536\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The requirements of the\u00a0<strong>Minor in Innovation &amp; Design<\/strong>\u00a0are as follows:<\/p>\n<table>\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th>Courses<\/th>\n<th>Remarks<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Group A &#8211; complete <strong>ONE<\/strong> of the following:\n<ul>\n<li>\n<ul>\n<li>CDE2300 Product Design and Innovation (4 units)<\/li>\n<li>CDE2310 Fundamentals of Systems Design (4 units)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"246\">Default is CDE2300. Students from College of Design and Engineering and College of Humanities &amp; Sciences should pass the introductory course DTK1234 Design Thinking prior to taking CDE2300.\n<p>CDE2310 is targeted at students who intend to work on projects in complex engineering systems.<\/p>\n<p>These courses can be double-counted toward the cross-disciplinary course requirement for students from School of Computing in Cohort AY2022\/2023 onward. For students from other Faculties\/Schools and cohorts, these courses are counted as unrestricted electives.<\/p>\nThese courses should be completed during Year 1 or Year 2.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Group B &#8211; complete <strong>ONE<\/strong> of the following:\n<ul>\n<li>\n<ul>\n<li>CDE1301B Conquering the Seas: Fundamentals of Autonomous Maritime Systems (4 units)<\/li>\n<li>CDE1301C Dominating the Battlefield: Fundamentals of Combat Robotics (4 units)<\/li>\n<li>CDE1301F Fundamentals of Automotive Engineering (4 units)<\/li>\n<li>CDE2301 Value Creation in Innovation (4 units)<\/li>\n<li>CDE2311 Introduction to Space Systems (4 units)<\/li>\n<li>CDE2605R Undergraduate Research Experience (4 units)<\/li>\n<li>CDE2606B Independent Work (4 units)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"246\">Default is CDE2301.\n<p>CDE2311 is targeted at students who intend to work on satellite-related projects.<\/p>\n<p>CDE1301B, CDE1301C, and CDE1301F are reserved only for Year 1 and\/or Year 2 students who are selected for the Hornet, DarkNUS, and FSAE training programmes respectively.<\/p>\n<p>CDE2605R\/CDE2606B can be counted as Group B course only for students from the College of Design and Engineering who are in selected competition projects aside from FSAE, Bumblebee, RoboMaster (e.g. CanSat Competition, Singapore Amazing Flying Machine Competition, University Rover Challenge).<\/p>\n<p>Counted as unrestricted elective except CDE2605R which can be used to partially fulfil the internship requirement for Engineering majors.<\/p>\nThese courses should be completed during Year 1 or Year 2.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>CDE3301 Ideas to Proof-of-Concept (12 units) or\u00a0CDE3301C Complex Systems Design: From Mission to Prototype (12 units<\/td>\n<td>Generally counted as unrestricted elective.\n<p>This course replaces the design project course in Biomedical Engineering and Engineering Science.<\/p>\n<p>Students should clear at least one Group A or Group B course prior to CDE3301\/CDE3301C.<\/p>\n<p>CDE3301 is a two-semester course must be completed during one of the following windows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Year 2 Semester 2 to Year 3 Semester 1<\/li>\n<li>Year 3 Semester 2 to Year 4 Semester 1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>CDE3301C is a variant of CDE3301 that is offered for selected competition projects and can be completed during one of the following windows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Year 2 Semester 1 to Year 2 Semester 2<\/li>\n<li>Year 3 Semester 1 to Year 3 Semester 2<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nCDE3301\/CDE3301C <strong>cannot<\/strong> be read concurrently with credit-bearing internship.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Students are encouraged to complete the Minor by end of Year 3 Semester 1 so that those who desire to upgrade to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cde.nus.edu.sg\/edic\/idp\/second-major\/\"><strong>Second Major in Innovation &amp;
