It comprises two fundamental courses and culminates in a year-long design project course where students are expected to apply their design knowledge and skills and work together their peers from different disciplines to develop solutions to real problems.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cde.nus.edu.sg\/edic\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2024\/07\/idp-timeline-MIN-rev2024-1024x536.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"536\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The requirements of the\u00a0<strong>Minor in Innovation &amp; Design<\/strong>\u00a0are as follows:<\/p>\n<h4>Compulsory course (12 units)<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Design project: CDE3301 Ideas to Proof-of-Concept (12 units) <strong>or<\/strong> CDE3301C Complex Systems Design: From Mission to Prototype (12 units)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Notes about CDE3301\/CDE3301C:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CDE3301 replaces BN3101A in Biomedical Engineering and ESP3903 in Engineering Science. Students are highly recommended to clear at least one elective course from List I prior to CDE3301.<\/li>\n<li>CDE3301 must be completed during either of the following windows:\n<ul>\n<li>Year 2 Semester 2 to Year 3 Semester 1 (Year 1 Semester 2 to Year 2 Semester 1 for poly-intake students and E-Scholars who are planning to graduate within 3 years)<\/li>\n<li>Year 3 Semester 2 to Year 4 Semester 1 (Year 2 Semester 2 to Year 3 Semester 1 for poly-intake students and E-Scholars who are planning to graduate within 3 years)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>CDE3301C is a variant of CDE3301 that is offered for selected competition projects and can be completed during one of the following windows:\n<ul>\n<li>Year 2 Semester 1 to Year 2 Semester 2<\/li>\n<li>Year 3 Semester 1 to Year 3 Semester 2<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>CDE3301 <strong>cannot<\/strong>\u00a0be read concurrently with credit-bearing internship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Elective courses (8 units)<\/h4>\n<p>Complete at least 8 units from the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CDE2300 Product Design and Innovation (4 units)<\/li>\n<li>CDE2301 Value Creation in Innovation (4 units)<\/li>\n<li>CDE2310 Fundamentals of Systems Design (4 units)<\/li>\n<li>CDE2311 Introduction to Space Systems (4 units)<\/li>\n<li>ID1121 Human-Centred Design (4 units)<\/li>\n<li>UTC2734 Ideas to Pitches: Tech, Innovation &amp; Entrepreneurship (4 units)<\/li>\n<li>CDE1301B Conquering the Seas: Fundamentals of Autonomous Maritime Systems (4 units)<\/li>\n<li>CDE1301C Dominating the Battlefield: Fundamentals of Combat Robotics (4 units)<\/li>\n<li>CDE1301F Fundamentals of Automotive Engineering (4 units)<\/li>\n<li>CDE2605R Undergraduate Research Experience (UREx) (4 units)<\/li>\n<li>CDE2606B Independent Work (4 units)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Notes about elective courses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students who are interested in product design, innovation, and entrepreneurship are recommended to take CDE2300 (or ID1121) and CDE2301.<\/li>\n<li>CDE1301%, CDE2310, and CDE2311 are targeted at students who intend to work on projects in complex engineering systems and special competition projects.<\/li>\n<li>Students who are required to take the introductory course DTK1234 Design Thinking should pass the course before embarking on CDE2300.<\/li>\n<li>CDE2300 or\u00a0CDE2310 can be double-counted toward the cross-disciplinary course requirement for students from School of Computing. For students from other Faculties\/Schools, these courses are counted as unrestricted electives.<\/li>\n<li>UTC2734 is available for students in Residential College 4 only and can be double-counted between the University Town College Programme and this Minor.<\/li>\n<li>Students can only count\u00a0<strong>ONE<\/strong> of the following courses as an elective for this Minor if they are working on a\u00a0<strong>special competition project<\/strong>\u00a0(e.g. FSAE, Bumblebee, Calibur Robotics). They may have to undergo a\u00a0<strong>separate selection process<\/strong>\u00a0to join each competition project:\n<ul>\n<li>CDE1301B Conquering the Seas: Fundamentals of Autonomous Maritime Systems<\/li>\n<li>CDE1301C Dominating the Battlefield: Fundamentals of Combat Robotics<\/li>\n<li>CDE1301F Fundamentals of Automotive Engineering<\/li>\n<li>CDE2605R Undergraduate Research Experience (UREx)<\/li>\n<li>CDE2606B Independent Work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>CDE2605R\/CDE2606B can only be counted as an elective for this Minor for students from College of Design and Engineering who are in a <strong>special competition project\u00a0<\/strong>without its own CDE1301% course (e.g. University Rover Challenge, CanSat Competition, Singapore Amazing Flying Machine Competition).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students are encouraged to complete the Minor by end of Year 3 Semester 1 so that those who desire to upgrade to the <a href=\"https:\/\/cde.nus.edu.sg\/edic\/idp\/second-major\/\"><strong>Second Major in Innovation &amp;
