\n\t\tSecond Major in Innovation & Design: Cohort AY2021\/2022\n\t<\/h2>\n\t

The Second Major in Innovation & Design<\/strong> consists of a series of project-based courses that run throughout a student’s candidature. Students are expected to develop their knowledge, skills, and abilities in innovation and design in a cumulative manner through these courses.<\/p>\n

The learning journey begins with lower-level courses that introduce students to basic concepts in innovation and design, and culminates in a major design project and a final year project where students are expected to apply their design knowledge and skills to develop solutions to real problems. Students will also take a number of Innovation & Enterprise electives to widen their knowledge about topics in design, business, and entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n

The requirements of the\u00a0Second Major in Innovation & Design<\/strong>\u00a0are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

    • EG2201A User-Centred Collaborative Design (4 units) or CDE2300 Product Design and Innovation (4 units)<\/li>\n
    • EG2310\/CDE2310 Fundamentals of Systems Design (4 units)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n
Default is EG2201A. Students who are required to take the introductory course DTK1234 Design Thinking should pass the course before embarking on EG2201A. EG2201A is re-coded as CDE2300 Product Design and Innovation from AY2024\/2025 onwards.\n

EG2310\/CDE2310 is targeted at students who intend to work on projects in complex engineering systems.<\/p>\nCounted as unrestricted elective.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Group B – complete ONE<\/strong> of the following:\n

    • EG2301\/CDE2301 Value Creation in Innovation (4 units)<\/li>\n
    • EG2311\/CDE2311 Introduction to Space Systems (4 units)<\/li>\n
    • CDE2605R Undergraduate Research Experience (4 units)<\/li>\n
    • EG2606B Independent Work (4 units)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n
Default is EG2301. Course is formerly known as Case Studies in Innovation.\n

EG2311 is meant for students who intend to work on satellite-related projects.<\/p>\n

EG2606B\/CDE2605R can be counted as Group B course for students from College of Design and Engineering who are special competition projects only (e.g. FSAE, Bumblebee, RoboMaster).<\/p>\nCounted as unrestricted elective except CDE2605R which can be used to partially fulfil the internship requirement for Engineering majors.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Group C – complete 8 units <\/strong>from the basket of Innovation & Enterprise electives<\/a>.<\/td>\nGenerally counted as unrestricted electives.\nSome courses may be double-counted between the Second Major and a student’s primary major.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
\u00a0EG3301R\/CDE3301 Ideas to Proof-of-Concept (12 units)<\/td>\nCourse is formerly known as DCP Project.\n

Generally counted as unrestricted elective.<\/p>\n

This course replaces the design project course in Biomedical Engineering and Engineering Science.<\/p>\nEG3301R cannot<\/strong>\u00a0be read concurrently with credit-bearing internship.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

EG4301 DCP Dissertation (12 units) or CDE4301 Innovation & Design Capstone (12 units) or<\/u> EG4301A\/CDE4301 Ideas to Start-up (12 units)<\/td>\nEG4301 is re-coded as CDE4301 Innovation & Design Capstone from AY2024\/2025 onwards, while EG4301A is re-coded as CDE4301A.\n

Replaces Integrated Project course in the common curriculum for Engineering majors.<\/p>\n

May replace honours thesis course in some non-Engineering majors (or vice-versa).<\/p>\n

These courses cannot<\/strong>\u00a0be read concurrently with credit-bearing internship.<\/p>\nThese courses cannot<\/strong> be used to fulfil a specialisation in any Engineering major.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Students from Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Materials Science & Engineering who are planning to take the Group A course EG2201A<\/strong>\u00a0may do so in\u00a0Year 1 Semester 2<\/strong>\u00a0after clearing DTK1234 in the preceding semester.\u00a0Students from College of Humanities and Sciences who have cleared DTK1234 in Year 1 Semester 1 may also read EG2201A in Year 1 Semester 2.<\/p>\n

Students from Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Science, Industrial\u00a0 & Systems Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering who are planning to take the Group A course EG2201A<\/strong>\u00a0may do so in\u00a0Year 2 Semester 1<\/strong>\u00a0after clearing DTK1234 in the preceding semester.\u00a0Students from College of Humanities and Sciences who are scheduled to take DTK1234 in Year 1 Semester 2 will also read EG2201A in Year 2 Semester 1.<\/p>\n

Students who are planning to take the Group A course EG2310<\/strong>\u00a0should do so in\u00a0Year 1 Semester 2<\/strong> as the course is offered in Semester 2 only of each academic year.<\/p>\n

Students who are in the\u00a0Engineering Scholars Programme<\/strong> and poly-intake students<\/strong> in Engineering majors who are exempted from one year’s worth of courses (38 units) may follow a three-year timeline.<\/p>\n

Students who participate in the\u00a0NUS Overseas Colleges <\/strong>(NOC) programmes may map some of their NOC courses to the Second Major. Students may also enrol in a specialisation<\/strong>\u00a0or a\u00a0minor<\/strong> on top of their primary major and the Second Major in Innovation & Design. However, those who do so may need to graduate with additional courses above and beyond the minimum 160 units needed for graduation.<\/p>\n
