Associate Professor David Allen was raised in West Texas. Following an undergraduate education at Rice University he graduated with an MD from Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, then completed his Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases training in New York Hospital/Cornell University Medical Center in New York City.

David was a faculty member in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Cornell University Medical Center when he was recruited to establish the specialty of Infectious Disease in Singapore. After forming and heading the first Infectious Diseases Department in Singapore, David returned to Texas and served for 20+ years as President, ID Specialists, P.A.

Currently, A/Prof Allen is Deputy Executive Director, Centre for Population Health, National University of Singapore; Associate Professor in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore; Senior Consultant, Division of Infectious Diseases, National University Hospital in Singapore; and Visiting Senior Consultant, National Centre for Infectious Diseases, Singapore.
