Chinese New Year Celebration 2024

On February 16th, 2024, the students, faculty, and staff from ESP came together to welcome the Year of the Dragon. The Chinese New Year festivities brought students, faculty, and staff together in a spirited display of cultural appreciation and community unity.

Lohei: The Prosperity Toss

One of the most memorable moments of the day was the Lohei (or Prosperity Toss). Everyone gathered around a large table filled with a colorful array of ingredients for the traditional yu sheng salad. As everyone enthusiastically mixed and tossed the salad together, wishes for prosperity, health, and happiness in the coming year were shared. The higher the toss, the greater the fortune—a sentiment that was joyfully embraced by all.

A Message of Unity and Hope

The Chinese New Year Celebration 2024 was not just a day of festivities but also a reminder of the power of community and the richness of cultural diversity. It brought together people from different backgrounds to celebrate a common tradition, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual respect.

As we usher in the Year of the Dragon, we carry forward the values of prosperity, strength, and good fortune. NUS ESP looks forward to many more such events that bring our diverse community closer and celebrate the myriad cultures that make our campus a vibrant place to learn and grow.

Happy Chinese New Year 2024!
