Study Abroad

Student Exchange Programme
(SEP)

This popular option lets you experience independent living and learning in a different culture for a semester (or two). NUS CDE has over 110 partner universities in 32 countries , including premier institutions, such as the University of California, Imperial College London, University of Tokyo and Tsinghua University. Furthermore, it is quite unique that we have exchanges with both Cambridge and Oxford universities.

SEP typically takes place in Year 3, although application and selection occurs a year in advance. You must design your own study plan by mapping courses at your intended exchange university to equivalent courses in your BEng curriculum. However, the grades you obtain while on SEP are not included in the calculation of your GPA, and credits are transferred on a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory basis.

NUS Overseas Colleges
(NOC)

NOC is a global internship and learning experience unique to NUS: you are thrown into the frenzy of a technology start-up at one of the hottest entrepreneurial hubs around the world, while juggling courses at a top university located nearby. Competition for this life-changing opportunity is keen, but if you are an Engineering Scholar, you are guaranteed a 6-month stint at one of the 11 NOCs. The entrepreneurship education of NOC is also recommended if you are pursing the second major in Innovation and Design (iDP).

NOC Year-long Programme

ISE students from cohorts AY2021/2022 onwards are allowed to map TR3203N to IE4100R (FYP). Students must seek approval from the ISEM Department for mapping of IE4100R before embarking on their NOC internship. Please submit FYP (IE4100R) mapping proposal form to the Department for consideration and approval.

For students who are enrolled in any ISE specialisations, the FYP must be related to their specialisation.

Other Global Experiences

A number of other overseas opportunities, such as research attachments and short study trips are available from the NUS Global Relations Office.

Global internships are sometimes offered through the Centre for Future-Ready Graduates.

Financing Your Overseas Learning

NUS offers bursaries, awards and loans to help defray part of the costs of studying abroad.
