Overview<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Starting from Academic Year 2021\/2022, a new undergraduate curriculum structure has been adopted to give students greater choice, breadth and flexibility in charting their learning journeys.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>Unrestricted Electives: Within and Beyond Engineering<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The NUS curriculum structure has provisions for Unrestricted Electives (UE), which allow students to explore greater breadth or depth in any subject and at any level.<\/p>\n<p>If you wish to go deeper within your chosen engineering discipline, you may opt to read a\u00a0<b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/registrar\/academic-information-policies\/undergraduate-students\/special-programmes\/specialisations\">specialisation<\/a><\/b><b>.\u00a0<\/b>If you prefer instead to broaden your knowledge and skills in a complementary or contrasting area, consider taking a\u00a0<b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/registrar\/academic-information-policies\/undergraduate-students\/special-programmes\/minor-programmes\">minor<\/a><\/b>\u00a0or\u00a0<b><a space for Unrestricted Electives. This means you will have the flexibility of taking a second major, a minor and specialisation, two minors, or two specialisations with your UE. These fit well into your degree structure without you having to delay graduation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Other options of using your UE space include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cde.nus.edu.sg\/undergraduate\/build-your-own-degree\/enhancement-modules\/\">Enhancement Courses<\/a><\/strong><strong>:\u00a0<\/strong>experiential learning opportunities for innovation and research within CDE<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/registrar\/academic-information-policies\/undergraduate-students\/design-your-own-module\">Design Your Own Course (DYOC):<\/a> <\/strong>students may choose what they want to learn, how they wish to learn, and from whom they wish to learn, for up to 8 units<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nus.edu.sg\/cfg\/students\/career-ready\/career-catalyst\">Career Catalyst<\/a><\/strong>: foundational course to kickstart students&#8217; preparation for internships and their future careers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<h4><em>Flexible and efficient use of course units: An example<\/em><\/h4>\n\t<p><em>Assume you want to pursue a minor in Data Engineering (DE) and Specialisation in Analytics and Decision Intelligence (ADI):\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><\/em><em><\/em><em>You can read <b>IE4213 Learning from Data <\/b>to fulfil a required elective in the ADI Specialisation, and also count it towards a core course requirement in the DE minor.\n<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><\/em><em><\/em><em>You can read <b>IE4210 Operations Research II<\/b> and <b>IE4215 Machine Learning for Industrial Engineering<\/b> to fulfil two technical electives in the ISE major, and count them towards two elective requirements in the ADI Specialisation.\n<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>You can read <b>IE4211 Modelling &amp; Analytics<\/b> to fulfil an ISE major technical elective requirement, and count it towards a DE minor elective requirement.\n<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Furthermore, for all ISE students, <b>IE1111R Industrial &amp; Systems Engineering Principles &amp; Practice I<\/b> is double-counted to fulfil the common curriculum requirements of Data Literacy.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>In conclusion, you have freed up five courses&#8217; worth of credits, which you can use to pursue other electives or even another minor or Specialisation!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Direct Admission Second Majors, Minors &amp;\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Specialisations<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Choose from more than 35\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/registrar\/academic-information-policies\/undergraduate-students\/special-programmes\/double-major-programmes\"><strong>second majors<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>and 50\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/registrar\/academic-information-policies\/undergraduate-students\/special-programmes\/minor-programmes\">minors<\/a>\u00a0\/\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/registrar\/academic-information-policies\/undergraduate-students\/special-programmes\/specialisations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">specialisations<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0across nine different Faculties and Schools in NUS.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cde.nus.edu.sg\/isem\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2021\/05\/wordcloud_poweredbywordart-002.png\" alt=\"Wordcloud Poweredbywordart (002)\" height=\"672\" width=\"745\" title=\"Wordcloud Poweredbywordart (002)\" \/>\n\t<p>You can\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/ModReg\/academic-plan-application-declaration.html\">declare or apply for a second major or minor<\/a>\u00a0no later than the fifth semester of your study.
