Despite the big progress of the field, high-fidelity aerodynamic simulations remain a key challenge, especially when\u00a0complex industrial geometries\u00a0are involved. To\u00a0achieve the goal, we\u00a0conceived key enhancements in spectral element methods (a set of numerical discretizations used to solve partial differential equations) and combined them with large-eddy simulation (a mathematical model for turbulent flows). We increased the accuracy and robustness of high-order mesh generation, improved numerical\u00a0stability, enhanced computational performance, and demonstrated the method by building a\u00a0high-fidelity\u00a0aerodynamic simulation of a real car.\u00a0Our methodology\u00a0enables faithful simulations of unsteady turbulent flows around complex geometries in aircrafts and cars, such as landing gears and complex multi-wing systems, among others.\u00a0The proposed method offers researchers and industry stakeholders a guide to transition towards next-generation computational tools for aerodynamics, that will lead to more efficient aerodynamic design of e.g., cars, and aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The transition to high-fidelity aerodynamic simulations in industry is within grasp. We provide a methodological building block and guide towards this transition.
