Professor Novoselov is the first Nobel Laureate to join a Singaporean university. We are incorporating new elements such as innovation, entrepreneurship, data science, artificial intelligence and intellectual properties for materials innovation into our curriculum.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>How does materials science and engineering relate to data science and artificial intelligence?<\/strong> We could simulate the properties of a piece of material with computational modelling and data analytics.<\/li>\n<li><strong>How does intellectual property (IP) protection relate to a material?<\/strong> When a new formulation of a material is invented, you must consider whether it is suitable to be protected through an IP. This is because the secret formulation has to be disclosed when applying for an IP. On the other hand, an IP is required for licensing, which brings you revenue.
