NUS at Davos 2019

NUS President Professor Tan Eng Chye and NUS Senior Advisor (University & Global Relations) Professor Kishore Mahbubani, along with Dean of NUS Design and Environment Professor Lam Khee Poh, Head of NUS Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Professor Liu Bin, and NUS Mechanical Engineering Associate Professor Ernest Chua will be attending the upcoming World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters (Davos 2019), to be held from 22 to 25 January.

Prof Tan will co-host a dinner reception with Nanyang Technological University President Professor Subra Suresh on 23 January, followed by a panel session with Singapore Minister for Finance Heng Swee Keat, CEO of Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC Mr Lim Chow Kiat, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University, Canada Professor Suzanne Fortier, and President and CEO of HP Inc., US Mr Dion Weisler, discussing topics centred on the theme "Globalisation 4.0: Technology and Innovation for Humanity". The panel session will take a look at how Singapore is addressing the challenges of Industry 4.0, and promoting a new "Globalisation 4.0" to shape the growth of ASEAN, Asia and beyond.

On 24 January, Prof Lam, Prof Liu and Assoc Prof Chua will lead an exclusive NUS IdeasLab session, sharing insights on the topic of sustainability with fellow researchers and academics. Additionally, Prof Lam will be contributing to a session focused on how the design of buildings can influence behaviour, Prof Liu will be speaking at a session on the topic of carbon capture technologies, and Assoc Prof Chua will be presenting at a session that will discuss the latest research on air-conditioning that could enable sustainable cooling.

Participation in the prestigious conference is by invitation only and reserved for members of the Forum's communities. Held annually, the conference brings together the top leaders in society to define priorities and shape global, regional and industry agendas for the year ahead. This year's theme "Globalisation 4.0: Shaping a Global Architecture in the Age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution" will look at the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on global cooperation and how to develop a new framework.

Prof Lam Khee Poh, Dean of NUS School of Design and Environment; Prof Liu Bin, Head of NUS Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering; and Assoc Prof Ernest Chua Kian Jon from NUS Department of Mechanical Engineering attended the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos in January 2019 where they spoke about how to deal with pressing issues of the day, particularly climate change.
