Four researchers with NUS Engineering have been named among the Singapore National Research Foundation (NRF) Fellows of the Class of 2021.

The NRF Fellowship Scheme attracts young early-career researchers to Singapore, supporting their projects with research grants and tenure-track faculty positions at several universities and research institutions in Singapore.

Assistant Professor Andrew Holle from NUS Biomedical Engineering and the Mechanobiology Institute studies how stem cells are affected by the mechanical properties of their surroundings, turning into different cells in response to different environments. His research has ramifications for our understanding of stem cells and cancer.

Assistant Professor Sergey Koslov from NUS Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is designing new catalysts for industrial and green technologies. Developing new computational tools based on theory from chemistry, physics, materials science, and nanotechnology, more complex and efficient catalysts can be tailor-made for specific applications.

Dr Mike Shou Zheng will be joining NUS Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in mid-2021. He was previously a Research Scientist at Facebook AI in Menlo Park. Dr Shou's work is on next-generation video intelligence, developing new deep learning methods to allow machines to understand actions and complex events from visual inputs.

Assistant Professor Wang Lei from NUS Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is developing catalyst-controlled processes to turn carbon dioxide into high energy density fuels, addressing the problem of storing clean energy while reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
