Activities under the MOU will focus on offering lifelong learning for biomedical engineering professionals.Â
SingHealth and NUS College of Design and Engineering (CDE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 27 June 2022 to develop a Development and Education framework for Biomedical Engineers in SingHealth to hone their knowledge on Biomedical Engineering and Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). Â
The signing of the MOU symbolised the strengthening of existing ties between Biomedical engineering colleagues in SingHealth and CDE, said Professor Aaron Thean, Dean of NUS CDE, during his opening remarks. Â
He highlighted that this partnership between academia and industry will be essential in helping both sides learn from each other.Â
A focus area of this MOU is on IoMT - Internet of Medical Things. The MOU scopes out 'joint outreach activities to promote digital transformation and adoption of emerging technologies in the industry'. IoMT-ready devices play a critical role in monitoring the spread of disease, the development of chronic illnesses, and even medication effects for better drug management. These devices have and will continue to impact how healthcare is delivered. Â
The collaboration between SingHealth and NUS CDE will also play a pivotal role in offering students an opportunity to learn from the industry, said Aurelius Andrew Kunartama, a Biomedical Engineering alumnus who attended the event.Â
He added that this spirit of collaboration between the industry and academia will inspire students to achieve innovations that will address the real needs on the ground.  Â
