A total of 1728 students and 50 industry partners took part in the 2-day affair, held at the lobby of the EA building.
The inaugural CDE Career Fair, organised by the Centre for Future-ready Graduates and CDE, was met with an overwhelming response from participants - both students and industry partners alike. The event, which took place over two days at the lobby of the EA building, saw over 500 attendees, with partners like Google, Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA), and Singapore Airlines present to connect with our students.Â
Before the fair, workshops and pop-up booths were organised to help students prepare to meet their potential employers. One-on-one sessions to help fine-tune resumes & cover letters and preparatory workshops on personal branding and professional development topics were conducted. Â
The first day of the CDE Career Fair was off to a roaring start, with a good crowd of students visiting the booths throughout the day.
Through the fair, students could learn more about the different fields of expertise in each company, meet with hiring managers, and hand in their resumes for the positions they were interested in. Companies shared the internship and full-time job opportunities available to the students.
Panel discussions were conducted to spark focused conversations with students on topics like sustainability.
Apart from forming connections with potential employers, students got the chance to interact with like-minded peers and discuss the various industries they could go into upon graduation. This exchange of opinions with friends and industry partners helped them make a better-informed decision about the path to take after leaving NUS.
The fair enabled students and industry partners to network and build rapport while exchanging information about opportunities awaiting them post-graduation.
Nagi Teja, a current Computer Engineering undergraduate, shared that the fair was a "golden opportunity for me to meet employers from different industries, which would help me make an informed decision about my career path."
Another student from the Mechanical Engineering programme, Meghan Khasnis, the same sentiments, citing how it was "fun and exciting to meet employers in person after a long time, especially after COVID-19 where interactions have become more superficial and harder to secure a job. The prizes were also fun and exciting, giving a light feel to a serious and hectic atmosphere".
The event received positive feedback from industry partners who were there as well. A representative from Singapore Airlines commented that it was "a great opportunity for prospective employers to engage in meaningful conversations and provide career advice for the students". At the same time, representatives from Applied Materials South East Asia applauded the handling of the booths, sharing how the "logistics are also well provided and advised".
Such events are a great way to expose CDE students to opportunities awaiting them after their journey ends in NUS. The College is committed to preparing the students well for job-hunting, ensuring adequate resources are readily available. One upcoming initiative by the CDE Office of Student Life's Careers & Internship team is a series of skill development workshops and employer-student engagement platforms for undergraduate students in the College. Students can look forward to the line-up of such career-related events and activities in conjunction with the internship programmes to guide and equip them in their preparation for a career after graduation.
