Continuation and Graduation Requirements

At NUS, minimum standards are set for continuation in a programme of study and graduation. After each examination, depending on each student’s academic performance, he/she will be emplaced in one of the following academic standing:

  • Passed; or  
  • Warning; or
  • Probation; or  
  • Dismissal

The following grade scheme is used. A typical graduate-level course of 39 hours of lecture is to be assigned 4 Units.

A candidate who is absent in the examination of a course without a valid reason acceptable to the Board of Examiners will be given Grade F (Fail) for the course which he/she is absent in. Courses with no assigned Units or grade points are excluded from the calculation of GPA. There are a number of situations for which no grade points are assigned.
