KIAN TECK ADAPTIVE DORMITORY

Author: LEE YUN XUAN

The thesis project provides a solution to increasing density in worker dormitories without compromising on overall well-being of dormitory residents.

The design conceptualises an existing dormitory to accommodate 1,560 workers while providing more than double the living space that each individual currently occupies. This was primarily motivated by the pandemic crisis that befell on foreign workers due to cramped and crowded living conditions.

It has also been designed to become highly adaptive and responsive to onsets of various pandemic crises and is able to juggle capacity, liveability and even pandemic preparedness at the same time.
