TIDE MARK

Author: JAMESHA ABIGAIL CHEN JIALE

This marine life experiential centre wraps parasitically around the jetty, blurring the divide between man and nature. The building permeates through various terrains, giving rise to myriad opportunities to encounter marine life in its most raw and vulnerable form. Yet, the building maintains a lightweight and airy atmosphere with the use of thin vertical louvres that function to encourage wind flow while minimising glare and solar radiation. With most encounters with nature, man usually takes from the environment. In the case of TideMark, the building generously gives back to nature providing a specialised environment that coral can thrive on-creating a symbiotic relationship that is the hallmark of sustainable design.
