1942 is a memory-scape dedicated to the civilians and soldiers who suffered and perished during the war and occupation on from 1942 to 1945. A walking journey along Fort Pasir Panjang leads one through the historical gun emplacements, priming the user before culminating in a series of evocative spaces at the clearing on top of Labrador Hill. As environmental factors directly affect the user’s perception of the space through the senses and surrounding context, the environment possesses latent emotive potential which can be realized in the memory-scape. 1942 modulates environmental factors in order to induce certain emotions as the user experiences these spaces.
