Assessment and quantification of the social value of Singapore’s twentieth-century architectural heritage

Funded by the Ministry of Singapore’s Academic Research Fund (AcRF) Tier 1 Grant (March 2023 to March 2025), Dr Nikhil Joshi and Qin Junjie have been working on a research project focused on the social values of historic buildings in Singapore.

The project began as part of Junjie's MAArC dissertation, under the guidance of Dr Nikhil Joshi & Prof Ho Puay-peng. In June 2023, she presented her paper at the "Past and Present - Built and Social" international conference on Culture, History, Art and Design. This conference is organised by Czech Technical University in Prague. Her research paper will be later published in the academic journal, Architecture_MPS by UCL Press.

As her research progressed, she presented her ongoing research at the international conference on “Cities’ Identity through Architecture & Arts” in 2024. The conference was held in Cagliari University in Sardinia as the main host, and in collaboration with Pisa University.

In 2025, she presented her paper titled: "Buildings’ Memories as Social Resilience​: Leveraging on the Social Value of Shopping Centres​" at the University of Greenwich, London, in the London Heritages 2025 Conference.
