What You Will Learn

The 5G cellular networks will provide network performance that is significantly better than that achievable with current networks and enable connectivity as a scale that will facilitate the development of new applications and business cases. The objectives of this course are to: • Provide an understanding of the architecture, operations, and fundamental technical concepts behind cellular networks. • Familiarize the students with core and supporting technologies of 5G networks, and issues related to their deployment, operation and security. At the end of the course, the participants will be: • Familiar with the operations and design principles 5G cellular networks • Able to qualitatively evaluate the applicability and benefits of 5G networks for application use cases.

Professor Biplab Sikdar

Professor Sikdar is the Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NUS, also serving as Director of the Cisco-NUS Corporate Research Laboratory. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA, and has been recognized as an expert in computer networks. His research focuses on Internet of Things and cyber-physical systems, particularly cyber-security. With prior experience as an Assistant and Associate Professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, he joined NUS in 2013. A recipient of numerous awards, he is esteemed as an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer and ACM Distinguished Speaker.
