Industry Partner: Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, Asia Pacific
Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, a global leader in luxury hospitality, recognizes that caring for the planet is integral to caring for people. Hyatt hotels have worked to advance environmental action across climate change and water conservation, waste and circularity, responsible sourcing and fostering thriving destinations. Yet a fundamental tension remains: how to deliver world-class guest experiences within planetary boundaries? This studio challenged students to reimagine 21st-century hospitality for Hyatt properties in Asia, asking: What if reduction creates abundance? What if constraint unlocks luxury?
Teams tackled interconnected challenges from reducing waste streams, to preserving water, and bridging the values-behaviour gap - turning sustainability into desirable, memorable experiences. Through engagement with hotel guests and Hyatt’s operations team, students uncovered evolving guest expectations, operational barriers, and cultural nuances across Southeast Asia.
The interventions make sustainable choices intuitive, delightful defaults - blending operational excellence with guest experience. They spark conversations and inspire lasting behaviour change that guests carry home and industry peers adopt.
