The Office of Student Life held a keychain-making workshop on 6 March 2023 at CDE To-Gather,Ā  TechnoEdge Level 3. Fifteen CDE students joined in the fun, crafting their chosen characters by piecing together the provided perler beads. The detailed and absorbing work proved quite therapeutic, with the additional advantage of a cute keychain to take home!

The Office of Student Life has rolled out a range of exciting fitness classes weekly from 13 March 2023 to 3 April 2023 as part of the free Move Your Body workshop series (Sportie) for CDE students. The first session, K-Pop X Fitness, was held on 13 March 2023 at SDE4 Open Plaza and was attended by 15 participants. The students sweated it out to familiar and simplified K-Pop dance moves cleverly incorporated by the instructor into the exercise regime. Fitness goals achieved in a fun way!
The fitness classes are exclusive to students. The series is a collaboration with the Health Promotion Board. Students can access the sign-up form here for more details.

Congratulations to PhD student Mr Chun Fu from the Department of the Built Environment for being part of the winning team in the Siemens Hackathon 2023 management in the track of "Swarm Behaviour on the Grid" under the theme of "Tech for Sustainability". Chun Fu is supervised by Dr Clayton Miller. The team clinched the first prize of ā‚¬5,000 with their innovative solution to model prosumer behaviour to enable sustainable grid management. The challenge aimed to accelerate the energy transition of grids by developing efficient and sustainable grid planning and operation software. Their solution addressed this challenge by proposing a forecasting model for energy consumption using proxy data of human behaviour, such as Google Trends and Twitter. Congratulations to PhD intern student, Mr Weng Yufeng one of the awardees of the 2022 LIU Huixian Earthquake Engineering Scholarship Award. Yufeng is supervised by Professor Quek Ser Tong.

Mr Roshan Shahid Zubair Zakir Megathaj Begum, a student of the MSc Safety, Health and Environmental Technology programme and President of the Chemical Engineering Graduate Students Society is a member of from the VEME TM Team, one of the winning teams of the inaugural DBS Foundation X NEA Hungry for Change Challenge. VEME is a 100% plant-derived catalyst that has been shown to catalyse the meat flavours and aroma of a meatless food substrate. The winning teams will receive a total funding of up to S$125,000, mentorship, and be connected to ecosystem partners to deepen their towards zero-waste impact. Well done!
