Residential programmes and effects on academics
D-Scholars and E-Scholars may choose to stay at one of the residential colleges. They could choose between Residential College 4, CAPT, Tembusu College, Ridgeview Residential College and NUS college. It is important to note that these are not only places to stay. They offer academic programmes that will help students clear a number of units from the Common Curriculum requirement in CDE. E-Scholars can choose one the following:
- The University Town College Programme (UTCP) offered at the Residential College 4 (RC4), College of Alice & Peter Tan (CAPT) and Tembusu College. This programme includes 4 courses (16 units) to be taken at the RCs. Click here for more information.
- The Ridge View Residential College (RVRC) programme. The RVRC programme is centred on sustainability, with a focus on outdoor learning. 4 courses (16 units) will be taken at RVRC. Click here for more information.
- NUS College (NUSC) programme. Students enrolled in NUS Bachelor of Engineering/NUS Bachelor of Arts (Ark, ID)/NUS bachelor of Landscape Architecture and NUS College will read a total of 160 units. For E-Scholars (NUS BEng) + NUSC, 80 units (20 courses) will be fulfilled by Major Requirements, 40 units (9 courses) will be fulfilled by NUS College, 20 units (5 courses) will be fulfilled by CDE common curriculum, and 20 units (5 courses) will be fulfilled by unrestricted electives (UEs).
For D-Scholars [NUS B.A (Ark) /B.A (ID) /BLA] + NUSC, 60 units (15 courses) will be fulfilled by Major Requirements, 40 units (9 courses) will be fulfilled by NUS College, 20 units (5 courses) will be fulfilled by CDE common curriculum, and 16 units (4 courses) will be fulfilled by unrestricted electives (UEs). NUSC courses aim to provide students with a broad, interdisciplinary skill set, with particular emphasis on critical thinking and making connections. Combined with the technical knowledge Engineering students will gain, NUSC is intended to provide students the necessary core thinking and reasoning skills to be a changemaker.
