FAQ
Admissions and what to do before entering the programme
What are the criteria for selecting students for the E-Scholars Programme?
Besides academic excellence, CCA achievements and performance during the interview will be taken into consideration.
Are there intake quotas across the engineering disciplines?
In general, there is no pre-set quota across the engineering disciplines as we are more concerned about taking in high-quality students regardless of engineering discipline.
Should I take Advance Placement Tests? If so, how many?
We strongly encourage all E-Scholars to take Advance Placement tests (see here for more information). This will allow the student to clear certain graduation requirements before the start of the semester. Due to the accelerated nature of the programme, this is a very important aspect that will allow E-Scholars a more enriching experience during normal semesters. In theory, E-Scholars should take as many APC as possible. However, it is important to note that time (and effort) to study for these tests will be required.
If I am offered admission to the E-Scholars Programme under a certain engineering course, can I still appeal for another engineering course and will the E-Scholars offer hold?
We will evaluate each situation on a case by case basis.
My ORD is in mid-July. Will this impact my candidature as an E-Scholar?
It is possible to join the E-Scholars programme with an ORD as late as mid-July and even late July. However, the following aspects should be taken into account:
- Advance Placement Tests. Due to the accelerated nature of the programme, we do recommend E-Scholars to clear credits through APC (see here for more details). Some of these tests are in June or early July and, moreover, some time to study prior to the test may be required. An ORD in mid-July might impact the ability to take these tests. As a consequence, in this situation, the E-Scholar will need to schedule the equivalent of the APC modules during the regular semesters, leading to very busy semesters.
- Residential Colleges. As E-Scholars may choose to choose on campus, some of the logistical aspects of the stay will be settled in mid-July. E-Scholars might be asked to communicate their choices (e.g., which college to stay, room type, etc) in this period.
I am a RNS and secured a spot for an engineering programme in the previous year. I wish to be considered for the E-Scholars Programme, what do I do?
RNS will have to submit a new application in order to be considered for E-Scholars Programme. In the application form, they will have to indicate their interest in E-Scholars Programme in Part (c) of Choice of Courses section. If the applicant wish to remain in the current reserved Single Degree Course, they will have to indicate the same course in Part (a) of section in the application. This is to allow them to remain in the same Single Degree Course should the new application to E-Scholars Programme be unsuccessful.
