With the close of the semester, E-Scholars got the opportunity to visit Halliburton’s Completion Technology and Manufacturing Centre in Tuas.
The engagement session kicked off with a quick introduction to Halliburton’s business in energy services along with an overview of the facility. The facility in Tuas is fully equipped to carry out the end-to-end production of Halliburton’s Completion Tools product service line–from R&D, to testing and simulation, to manufacturing. One of the highlights of the visit was a plant tour to get a glimpse into the process and the amenities involved in Completion Tools production. After a safety briefing, the students were split into two groups and then set off for the tour.
The E-Scholars got to see and learn more about the industrial-grade 3D printers for creating prototypes, the laboratory facilities for testing materials and prototypes, and the manufacturing floor. The plant tour ended with a visit to the Command Center, a space equipped for team collaboration and coordination. The production shop floor could be viewed from this room as well.
After the plant tour, there was a lunch and mingling session with a panel of managers from various business units, who shared more about their leadership journeys in Halliburton. They highlighted the open work culture of the company, and the ample opportunities provided for employees to try out different areas and grow within the organisation. They also discussed the fact that studying for an engineering degree, no matter which major, inculcates problem solving skills which are extremely versatile. Hence, the students were encouraged to keep an open mind about the various opportunities they would come across in their careers, and to not be afraid of trying new areas of interest.
Finally, there was a discussion of the opportunities available for graduates, such as the Supply Chain Management Programme (SCMP) and the Halliburton Graduate Rotational Programme (HGRP).
The visit to Halliburton was a fruitful session and a good eye-opener into the various options within Halliburton and the Oil & Gas industry.
