During Recess Week, the E-Scholars took part in an engagement session with Keppel Infrastructure (KI) at the Keppel Leadership Institute.
After a warm welcome by Ms Dinah and her team, Prof Alberto gave a brief introduction to the E-Scholars programme, which was followed by a sharing from a current E-Scholar senior, Jovi, on his personal experiences in the programme. As part of his sharing, he encouraged his juniors to be adventurous, and to make good use of the opportunities given in university to explore their passions.
Next, the E-Scholars were given an introduction to the various business divisions of Keppel Infrastructure, as well as new areas which the company is venturing into, such as Electrical Vehicle (EV) charging. This was an eye-opener and gave the scholars insight into the diverse work happening at KI. This introduction was followed by a sharing from Mr Tan Jian Hui on his leadership journey. He underlined the importance of being clear on what you would like to do and achieve, and not being afraid to innovate and take calculated risks. In addition he emphasised the importance of authenticity and trust within a team, between team members and leaders, for a team to function at its best. Nonetheless, Mr Tan noted that each individual would have a different leadership style; everyone’s leadership journey is a personal one—a journey of continuous learning and growth.
The sharing session was then rounded off with a presentation of the numerous opportunities available for fresh graduates and current students, giving the scholars a better idea of what they can expect from the Keppel Internship Programme as well as the Keppel Associate Programme.
The final segment of the networking event was a mingling session. E-Scholars got the opportunity to connect with Keppel staff over refreshments and learn more about their individual journeys working at Keppel.
It was a very meaningful event, with the E-Scholars learning lots and making new connections. We look forward to future engagement sessions with KI.
