SUB-NAMES OF ENG @ 82 Bursary
The NUS Engineering Class of 1982 came together to support the ENG @ 82 Bursary for financially disadvantaged full-time undergraduates at the Faculty of Engineering. Alumnus Mr Seah Cheng San (Civil Engineering '82, Business '92), who was inspired by the scholarship he received during his university days, rallied his classmates and championed this initiative. The following sub-named awards were established:
ENG @ 82 - Anita Yang Li-Ann Bursary (2019)
Prof Quek Khor Ping, a Mechanical Engineering graduate of 1982, had a 38-year career at IBM, where he earned numerous accolades including the IBM Worldwide Marketing Best Practice Award in 2005 and the IBM Master Deal Maker in 2009. In 2017, he received a joint appointment at the NUS Business Analytics Centre (NUS BAC) and IBM, and in 2018, he transitioned to NUS BAC as Deputy Director. Committed to philanthropy, Prof Quek co-founded the Abilities Beyond Limitations and Expectations (ABLE) charity and served as Chairman of the Centre for the Physically Challenged (CPC) and Agape Respite Centre. He established a bursary in memory of his late wife, Madam Anita Yang Li-Ann, who passed away in 2003.
ENG @ 82 - Boon Kui and Siew Lian Bursary (2018)
Mr Tew Boon Kui, (Electrical Engineering ’82, Business ’88) and his wife, Ms Tay Siew Lian (Civil Engineering ’82) met while they were studying in NUS. For their contributions to the community and NUS, Mr Tew he was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation at the inaugural Alumni and Friends Appreciation Dinner held by the College of Design and Engineering (CDE) on 12 May 2023. Mr Tew and Ms Tay believe in the importance of education and helping financially needy students.
ENG @ 82 - Design 82 Bursary (2018)
Ms Wan Siew Ping, a Mechanical Engineering graduate of 1982, commenced her career as a process engineer. In 2021, she founded Design Engineering 82 Pte Ltd, specializing in automated machinery design and development, fostering industry-research collaboration. She holds roles as a council member of the Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES), deputy chair of the IES Academy, and council member of AutomationSG. Recognized for her contributions, she received the Engineering Alumni Service Honours Award in 2017. Ms Wan is dedicated to promoting the application of scientific and engineering knowledge in design.
ENG @ 82 - DRH/Sheares Hall Alumni Bursary (2018)
This sub-named bursary is named in recognition of a group of donors from Dunearn Road Hostels (DRH) / Sheares Hall (SH) who participated in the Engineering Charity Golf at the Orchid Country Club to raise funds for needy CDE undergraduates.

The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Alumni Committee organised the Engineering Charity Golf Tournament at the Orchid Country Club to support financially needy ECE students.
ENG @ 82 - Fidens Engineering/TH Tan & Family Bursary (2018)
Mr Tan Teo Hoo, (Mechanical Engineering ’82) founded Fidens Engineering Pte Ltd in 1992. Mr Tan is always passionate about helping the needy. He is the Vice-President of the Thong Kheng Welfare Services Society, a registered charity in Singapore that helps all people and relieve the poor, the disadvantaged, the needy and the distressed, without discrimination as to race, language or religion, through the engagement in charitable and social enterprises. Mr Tan established this sub-named bursary to extend his help to financially needy students and named the bursary after his company and his family, the two things he holds most dear.

ENG @ 82 - Hian Hai & Kang Wee Bursary (2018)
Mr Ong Hian Hai, (Civil Engineering ’82) has a successful and long-standing career at the Public Utilities Board, for which he was awarded with The Long Service Medal on National Day 2005. His wife, Dr Kang Wee ('84), was a retired obstetrician and gynaecologist and in 2007, she was awarded the Excellent Service Award (EXSA) Star Award for her work and contributions. They established this sub-named bursary to assist financially needy students.
ENG @ 82 - Institution of Engineers, Singapore Bursary (2018)
The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) was formally established on July 1966 as the national society of engineers in Singapore. They supported the Engineering Charity Golf Tournament 2014 with a gift towards bursaries and hope to encourage deserving students to pursue an engineering career and help advance the field.
ENG @ 82 - Kee & Kee Bursary (2025)
Mr Soh Chin Guan (Civil Engineering '82) is the Vice President (Projects) with CES_SDC Pte Ltd (formerly known as Sembcorp Design and Construction Pte Ltd). In 2024, Mr Soh Chin Guan established this sub-named bursary in loving memory of his parents, Mr Soh Kee Kwai and Mdm Chionh Chai Kee, who migrated from Fujian Province, China in search of a better life in Singapore and raised 8 children. Since both his parents have the word "Kee" in their names, Mr Soh decided on the name "Kee & Kee Bursary".
ENG @ 82 - Koh Hang Meng Bursary (2024)
Mr Eddie Koh Hang Meng is the Managing Director of Eratech Pte Ltd. Mr Koh grew up with 6 siblings during the difficult times of 1950s-70s when education was not readily accessible and there was not much financial assistance available. Mr Koh strongly supports the idea of helping bright young people through education without financial worries. In 2023, he made this gift to help financially needy students.
ENG @ 82 - Kunna Chinniah & Family Bursary (2018)
Mr Kunnasagaran "Kunna" Chinniah(Electrical Engineering '82) was with the Government Investment Corporation (GIC) for 24 years. His last appointment was Head of the GIC Global Infrastructure Group, which he served from 2012 to 2013. Post retirement, he served on the boards of several companies including Keppel Infrastructure Trust and Azalea Asset Management. He is currently on the board of Sembcorp Industries, Capitaland Ascendas REIT and Changi Airport International. He is also a member of the Hindu Endowments Board.He made a gift in 2017 to help underprivileged engineering students.
ENG @ 82 - Lee Foundation Bursary (2018)
Mr Lee Kong Chian started the Lee Foundation in 1952 to aid the advancement of education and medicine, help the poor, and assist victims of fire, flood and famine. It has funded various philanthropic causes over the years and is Singapore’s largest private charitable foundation. The Foundation is run by a board comprising of Mr Lee's descendants and family members. During the NUS Engineering Charity Golf 2014, the Lee Foundation establish this sub-named bursary to support financially disadvantaged and deserving CDE undergraduates.
ENG @ 82 - Lew Chew Oon & Lai Choi Mui Bursary (2018)
Mr Lew Kim Soon (Mechanical Engineering '82) is a regular donor to NUS since 2010. He made a gift in 2018 in memory of his late parents, Mr Lew Chew Oon and Mdm Lai Choi Mui, in recognition of the struggles they overcame to provide him with an education.
ENG @ 82 - Lew, Seah & Sim Bursary (2018)
In 2017, Mr Seah Cheng San (Civil Engineering ‘82, Business, '92), Mr Sim Jim Ho (Electrical Engineerin '82, Business '94) and Mr Lew Kim Soon (Mechanical Engineering '82) made a gift to establish this sub-named bursary to commemorate their friendship. They remain good friends till this day.
ENG @ 82 - Loo Lip Giam Bursary (2018)
Mr Paul Loo Lip Giam (Civil Engineering '82, Business '87) is the CEO of Focus Network Agencies (FNA Group International), a leader in confectionery distribution and retail, featuring brands like Ferrero and Hershey's. He took over the confectionery division of Duty Free Singapore in 1991, growing it into the FNA Group. In 2013, he received the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Singapore Award. His Catholic primary education instilled the importance of education in him. Besides working with churches and charities, he has donated numerous bursaries to NUS and other institutions and is a long-term supporter of the College's fundraising events.
ENG @ 82 - Malaysian Community Bursary (2023)
In 2006, Mr Yeo Keng Joon (Business '85) made his first major donation to the NUS Business School. Beside his donation, he rallied his other friends to donate as well, resulting in the creation of the NUS Business School Alumni Association (NUSBSA) Bursary Fund. Since then, he has donated to many initiatives. One example is the NUS Campus Couples Bursary Fund, which he set up in 2015 to help financially needy students. As of 2024, it has helped over 150 needy students. In 2022, Mr Yeo established this sub-named bursary to support financially needy Malaysian CDE undergraduates.
ENG @ 82 - Matcor & Sim Kheng Wah Bursary (2017)
Er. Dr David Tay graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 1985, while Ms Sim Kheng Wah graduated in Building in 1986. In 1989, Er Dr Tay founded MATCOR Technology & Services Pte Ltd, which was later acquired by Cetim Group in 2018 by Cetim Group in France, one of the largest industrial research organizations in Europe. Ms Sim currently holds the position of Director Industrial Singapore at AtkinsRéalis, a world-leading design, engineering and project management organization, while Er Dr Tay is involved in investing and serves as an expert witness for litigation and insurance cases. Since the early 2000s, they have been actively supporting financially disadvantaged students and engineering undergraduates through donations.
ENG @ 82 - Ng & Ng Bursary (2018)
Mr Ng Seng Yoong (Civil Engineering '82) and Madam Ng Wan Hwa (Electrical Engineering '82) have successful careers and they are thankful to their alma mater, NUS. Thus, they established this burdary with the hope that promoting an engineering education can help create a better world.
ENG @ 82 - Ng Bok Eng Bursary (2023)
The late Mr Ng Bok Eng, known as the "King of Cloves," was born in Kinmen in 1917. After moving to Indonesia at age 12, he worked various jobs, eventually starting the Bian Bee Company in 1943, which became a major importer of cloves, coffee, and pepper. He later founded Ng Bok Eng Holdings in 1969, focusing on property and securities. Deeply committed to education, he donated large sums for scholarships and professorships. He passed away in 2008 at 92. His son, Mr. Ng Cheong Bian, established a bursary in his memory to continue his legacy of supporting education.
ENG @ 82 - Ngai Kok Leong and Chong Chiet Ping Bursary (2023)
Mr Ngai Kok Leong (’75) and Ms Chong Chiet Ping share the passion of helping needy students and are keen to help them to lessen their financial burden and to offer them a chance to have a wholesome and enjoyable University experience. They have established several bursaries in NUS. Including the King Edward VII Hall Alumni - Ngai Kok Leong and Chong Chiet Ping Bursary and the DRH/SH Alumni - Ngai Kok Leong and Chong Chiet Ping Bursary. In 2022, they established this bursary in help financially needy CDE undergraduates.
ENG @ 82 - NUS Engineering Charity Golf 2014 Bursary (2018)
This sub-named bursary was established to commemorate the inaugural Engineering Charity Golf Tournament held on 20 May 2014 at the Orchid Country Club. The event was jointly organized by the Engineering Class of 1982 and the Electrical and Computer Engineering Alumni, and supported by the NUS Faculty of Engineering. Donors, golfers and sponsors jointly contributed to establish this bursary to support financially needy CDE students.
ENG @ 82 - NUSS Bursary (2018)
As Singapore’s premier graduate club, National University of Singapore Society (NUSS) creates a common meeting ground for graduates from local and recognised foreign universities to network. This bursary was established with a gift made on 21 July 2017 at the 35th Class Reunion of the Engineering Class of 1982 in commitment to the NUSS mission to support both the interests of NUS and the wider graduate community. NUSS provided this seed funding to encourage the Engineering Class of 1982 to fundraise for NUS.
ENG @ 82 - Phuah Yee Koon Bursary (2023)
The late Mdm Phuah Yee Koon was the apotheosis of the traditional Asian woman. Despite having to care for five children and two elderly parents-in-law, she never gave up on her duties, persevering and overcoming through sheer tenacity. When her late mother-in-law became bedridden due to a stroke, she voluntarily took care of her for a full decade. She even engaged in community services upon fulfilling her familial duties, for which she was presented with awards from the People’s Association and Lions’ Befrienders. She passed away on 25 September 2017 at the age of 91, and is survived by her 5 children and 9 grandchildren. Mdm Phuah’s son, Mr Koh Nghee Kwang (Civil Engineering '82) established this bursary in memoriam of his faithful and virtuous mother.
ENG @ 82 - Seah & Siak Bursary (2018)
Mr Seah Cheng San (Civil Engineering '82, Business '92) and his wife, Ms Chong Siak Ching (Estate Management '81, Business '91) met during their undergraduate days at NUS, and the name “Seah & Siak” was the nickname they were known by. This sub-named bursary was established with the intention of inspiring current and future alumni to give back towards their alma mater.
ENG @ 82 - Stella & Edwin Seow Bursary (2023)
Mr Edwin Seow (Civil Engineering '82) was the Head of Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC), Technology & Contracts at ChemOne Group, a Singaporean petrochemical group. Currently, he is an active volunteer in Dover Park Hospice as its Volunteer Ambassador and is involved in many alumni matters and fundraising for NUS. He has helped to in fundraising charity golf events for NUS, such as the Engineering Class Charity Golf 2017 & 2022, Kent Ridge Hall Charity Golf 2017, Dunearn Road Hall/Sheares Hall Charity Golf 2018, and the Food and Science Technology Charity Golf 2019. In 2022, Mr Edwin Seow and his wife, Mrs Stella Seow, established this bursary to help financially needy CDE undergraduates.
ENG @ 82 - Teoh Cheng Ann and Chen Soon Bin Bursary (2017)
Ms Chen Soon Bin (Electrical Engineering '82) and Mr Teoh Cheng Ann (Electrical Engineering '82) met in NUS during their undergraduate days. They got married in 1984 and went on to have 4 children. In their professional lives, Ms Chen was the Managing Director at the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC) until 2013 and was Board Member of the Jurong Town Corporation (JTC) until 2016 and Ms Teoh was a project manager in the manufacturing sector. In 2017, they made a gift to establish this bursary in appreciation of NUS for their successes in both their career and lives.
ENG @ 82 - Vincent Han & Seok Kuan Bursary (2023)
Er. Vincent Han Kim Siew (Mechanical Engineering '82), a registered Professional Engineer with over 30 years of experience in Mechanical and Electrical engineering. He is the Founder and Managing Director of Vincent, Han & Associates, and also Vincvent Han and Associates (VHA) Consultants Pte Ltd, both are professional engineering services providers. He holds positions as a Registered Inspector (M&E), Fire Safety Engineer, and ACES committee member. His wife, Mrs Han-Tay Seok Kuan (Arts and Social Sciences ’84) was honored with The Long Service Medal in 2010 and the MOE Innergy Award in 2019 for her dedication to teaching Chinese. Married in 1987, they established a bursary in 2022 to support aspiring engineers and ensure opportunities for future engineers.
ENG @ 82 - Volvo East Asia Bursary (2018)
Volvo East Asia is a player in the local automobile industry. The Volvo Group is one of the largest producers of trucks, buses and construction equipment. It is also a player in the field of marine & industrial engines and aircraft engine components. Its Singapore regional distribution centre is located in Joo Koon Circle, Jurong. The company established this bursary to assist students in overcoming financial hurdles.
ENG @ 82 - Yeoh Kim Neo Bursary (2018)
In 2017, Mr Yeo Keng Joon made this gift in memory of his sister, Ms Yeo Kim Neo, who was a teacher at the Methodist Girls School, Malacca. She passed away in 1988. Her son Mr Wong Sieh Hiin went on to graduate from NUS with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 2003 and later obtained a master's degree in Supply Chain Management from NUS in 2015.
ENG @ 82 - Yeoh Oon Teng Bursary (2018)
Mr Steven Yeoh (Mechanical Engineering '82) and his wife, Ms Theresa Yap (Accountancy '82) made this gift in 2017 in memory of his father, Mr Yeoh Oon Teng, who passed away on 27 December 2008 at the age of 78. The late Mr Yeoh is survived by his 3 sons, 1 goddaughter, 6 grandchildren and 1 god-granddaughter.
