SGUnited Research Apprentice (12 months)

This position relates to experimental research in the field of two-dimensional (2D) spintronics – devices and physics. Our sub-group under Prof. Barbaors Ozyilmaz focuses on the study of spintronics based on 2D materials, including spin injection, transport, precession and detection in various 2D systems such as graphene (semi-metal), black phosphorus (semiconductor), etc. The job requires the trainee to assist postdocs and senior PhD students in the fabrication, characterization and measurement of various spintronics devices based on 2D materials.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Exfoliate various 2D materials (graphene, BN, etc) and identify atomically thin flakes using optical microscope, AFM, Raman, etc.
  • Make van der Waals heterostructures based on the exfoliated 2D materials using dry/wet transfer technique
  • Fabrication of micro-nano devices based on the 2D materials and/or heterostructures

Eligibility:

Please ensure that you are eligible for the position. Refer to http://www.nus.edu.sg/cfg/rg/traineeships/faqs

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science.
  2. Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  3. High levels of energy and enthusiasm for experimentation

SGUnited Research Apprentice (12 months)

A Research Apprentice is required to work on a project related to corrosion control in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, National University of Singapore. Globally corrosion is a US$2.5 trillion dollar problem, consuming over 3% of the world’s GDP. The Research Apprentice will work on an A*STAR funded project under the Structured Metals programme. The apprentice will do experimental investigations into the fundamental processes of localized corrosion that will be used in conjunction with modelling studies performed at the Institute of High Performance Computing in order to develop alloys with superior corrosion resistance, but at the same time economically viable.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct experimental research into how minor alloying elements, influence the properties of protective passive films and thereby enhance or degrade corrosion resistance.

Eligibility:

Please ensure that you are eligible for the position. Refer to http://www.nus.edu.sg/cfg/rg/traineeships/faqs

Qualifications:

  1. B.Eng degree in Materials Science & Engineering with CAP of at least 3.5.
  2. Effective oral and written management communication skills
  3. Some electrochemical experience would be an advantage.
