New Faculty Member: Dr. Pieremanuele Canepa

Dr. Pieremanuele Canepa joined MSE department as Assistant Professor on 10 Sep 2018. Dr. Canepa’s research area is first-principles calculations, combined with, high-throughput methods to improve the understanding of the relationship between materials’ properties and their physical and chemical characteristics. His research focuses on deciphering the complex structure of liquid electrolytes and electrode interfaces, ion diffusion in materials for novel energy storage devices. At NUS Dr. Canepa will apply materials science, solid state physics, quantum mechanics, and statistical mechanics to investigate materials for energy storage and conversion.
Dr. Canepa was an independent Ramsay Memorial fellow in the group of Prof. Saiful Islam at the University of Bath, United Kingdom. Previously, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under Prof. Gerbrand Ceder. In November 2012, he was awarded a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Kent, United Kingdom. He holds a M.Sc. (Hons) and B.Sc. (Hons) in Chemistry from the University of Turin, Italy.
